We are a family run 'bricks and mortar' business based in Eccles, Manchester.

You will find over 70 machines and overlockers in our showroom and all the best makes of machines, cabinets, a wide range of haberdashery and sewing patterns on our website. We run various workshops too!

Bamber Sewing Machines came into being back in 1946. Dad, Roy Bamber, came across a treadle sewing machine on top of a Salford bomb site when he was around 14. He scrambled to the top and dragged the machine down and hired a hand cart to take it home. There he repaired it and later sold it to a neighbour.

Alan & Steve, Roys two sons, joined him during the 1970’s & 80’s and they all worked together in their happy family business.

Ready to take your sewing to the next level? Then this course is for you. We have devised a whole day of sewing, designed to build your portfolio of sewing skills and give you the confidence to tackle any sewing project.

Based at Bamber Sewing Machines, you’ll find like-minded classmates; expert tutors and all the fabrics, trims, patterns and sewing tools you could wish for (plus sewing machines and overlockers for those wishing to invest heavier)!

Start the day by taking the challenge out of sewing zips by sharing simple tricks and tips that will give you the confidence to tackle zips head on!
You’ll learn how to sew a regular centred zip and invisible zip and the tools to use to make it as simple as possible.
Next learn how to cut and join bias strips to make your very own piping (fabric covered cord) and bias binding. We’ll show you how to insert your piping into seams and sew your bias binding onto a fabric edge, with lots of tips on how to cope with those tricky joins and curves. These techniques will add a professional edge to your project and give a gorgeous clean finish.

Finally, learn how to use some very clever sewing accessories including a twin needle to sew a hem on jersey, a buttonhole foot to make a one-step automatic buttonhole and a walking foot to tackle tricky fabric.
As this is not a beginner’s workshop, you must already have some experience on a sewing machine or have attended one of our Beginner sewing workshops.
