The Beach Shack is a family-run licensed café situated directly on the beach at the western end of Sandown
The Beach Shack is the first café on the Sandown to Shanklin revetment, a pedestrianised path which runs under the cliffs and along the beach between the two towns. This location is the perfect venue for families with children or for those who simply want to get away from the traffic! The added bonus of being under the cliffs, is that the Beach Shack seems to have its own little micro climate and enjoys temperatures far higher than in surrounding, unsheltered spots.
Our lunch menu is extensive. Along with the usual baguettes, which are all cooked to order on the premises, we offer things such as homemade Moroccan or Cajun chicken (Greg crushes and mixes the spices himself on the premises!) and rocket, parmesan and steak baguettes. If you fancy something more substantial, we also have homemade Thai-style chicken burgers with sweet chilli jam, gammon steaks or King prawns in garlic butter.
Our homemade crab cakes have won the award for the Best Crab Cakes on the Isle of Wight for the last five consecutive years! These are a very popular choice. We also offer fresh Bembridge crab salads, seafood platters to share and fresh lobster. There are also great Vegetarian options such as the Beach Shack grilled Halloumi “burger” or freshly baked baguettes filled with Mozzarella, sundried tomato and our tasty homemade pesto and a large range of healthy, spectacular salads.
We are open every day from 10am until 5ish. Please call us to check if open
Alcohol served from 10.00-until closing
Cards welcome, £5.00 minimum purchase.
There is, of course, a childrens’ menu which can be followed by a delicious New Forest ice cream.
The Beach Shack has tables along the sea wall, perfect for keeping an eye on little ones while you relax at the tables, and a sheltered terrace to the side of the café, where you can sit and soak up the rays while looking out over this beautiful, sandy bay towards the downs at Ventnor. Stunning!
In the summer months, the side patio is bedecked with fairy lights hanging from the massive umbrellas and candles on the tables and provides the perfect spot for dinner with the waves lapping gently a few feet away
